SEA CADET OFFICERS
An exciting opportunity to work with some of the best youth in the country! We are always looking for skilled adults aged 18+ to assist in the training of Sea Cadets at individual corps throughout the province.
A sub-component of the Department of National Defense, the Cadet Instructor Cadre of Commissioned Officers dates back to 1908. Originally, the corps of School Cadet Instructor (militia), trained and paid by the Department of Militia and Defense to conduct drill and physical training in participating schools. Formed primarily of school teachers, this officer cadre was disbanded in 1921 during a period of reorganization. It reappeared on 1 June 1924 as the Cadet Services of Canada; it was a component of the Canadian Army and the forerunner of the current Cadet Instructor Cadre. This arrangement between the Federal Government and local school boards contributed significantly to the development of physical education programs in Canadian schools.

NAVY LEAGUE OFFICERS
While the Navy League follows centuries of naval customs and traditions, we are not directly affiliated with the Department of National Defense. In most cases the Navy League Officer corps is comprised of active parents whose children are enrolled in the cadet program. While a military or cadet background is certainly helpful, our doors are opened to those who would like to answer the call to work directly with a very dynamic group.
Unlike the CIC officer corps, Navy League officers are strictly a volunteer position with a Warrant issued, instead of a Commission. In Alberta Division, in order to become/remain a Navy League officer you must pass ongoing police security / background checks. Along with that, there are a series of rotational classes which are mandatory (offered at officer training weekends twice a year) which cover everything to abuse prevention and identification - to dealing with children who have learning disabilities.
A very satisfying position, Navy League officers work hard to properly mold young people in order to assist them in any future endeavor. Contact your local corps for more information.
